Artist Statement

Each painting has a starting point.  For me, it can be a momentary glimpse of a scenic vista or an ancient town, or perhaps an intimate look at a flower.  What appeals to me most is the emotional impact of the colors, shapes and textures.  There is nothing quite like the feeling of touching a brush full of paint to canvas or paper.  Whether working in oil, acrylic or watercolor, the feeling is the same: joy at the unexpected things that can happen when colors meet.

Traveling feeds my art, and making art enriches my travels.  While away from home, in addition to taking photographs I sketch and do quick watercolors.  Back in the studio, each painting becomes a journey, immersing me in the feelings I had experienced.  My recent paintings are inspired by trips to Greece, Italy, Ireland, Argentina, and around the United States and Canada.

I maintain a studio in my home in Chevy Chase, DC. To contact me about my work or to arrange a studio visit, please email me at:
